Abstract

Discover the Secrets to Unlocking Your Hearing Potential With
Your Cochlear Implant Today.

Date:
From: Jeremy Runnells
Dear Fellow Cyborg,

You're about to discover the mindset, techniques, and secrets that will
absolutely change the way you hear with your cochlear implant.
That's a promise.

My name is Jeremy Runnells. I'm a cochlear implant user of 6 years who
stumbled upon a few key principles and techniques that have literally
changed my hearing and my life.
By following the same methods I share with you in the Cyborg Guide, I
literally went from stagnation and frustration to amazing levels of
hearing I never knew were possible.

Where I once was unable to talk on the phone, I can now comfortably and
easily talk to strangers on the other line without anxiety.

I used to hate going out to restaurants as having conversations with
family and friends in noisy environments was more work than I cared
for. I now enjoy going out as I'm relaxed and confident in being able
to understand what they're saying.

I tell you this not to rub in your face but to illustrate that hearing
with a cochlear implant is never cemented or permanent. It's fluid.
It's a molding clay that can be molded and re-molded over time. Your
hearing can and should exponentially improve over time.

In fact, it is not unreasonable to assume that at some point in the
future, Cyborgs (those with cochlear implants) will be able to hear
better than regular hearing folks do.

I explain how this may be possible in Cyborg Guide.

What's a Cyborg?

Cyborg: a person whose physiological functioning is aided by or
dependent upon a mechanical or electronic device.

Those with cochlear implants are among the very few people on this
planet who are cool enough to be able to really say,

I am a Cyborg.

What Is Cyborg Guide?

Remember as a kid when you wanted to reach Level 15 in that Nintendo
game you were absolutely obsessed with?

Thanks to my inability to stay alive in the game, I never could reach
the virtual Promise Land. I tried doing it the "normal" way and got
nowhere.

So, I did the next best thing and went out and bought myself one of
those cheat guides that teach you all the little tricks you can do to
reach Level 15 faster than you ever could otherwise.

Cyborg Guide is the cheat guide for cochlear implants. I'm going to
show you the exact techniques and tricks that will allow you to reach
wicked levels of hearing you never realized was possible.

"Cautious Optimism"

Audiologist or surgeon: "My advice is to not have high expectations on
what your implant will do for you. What works for one person may not
work for another person. Every person is different."

Sound familiar?

What really irks me is the "cautious optimism" mindset that just oozes
on new candidates and users from day one. By "cautious optimism", I'm
talking about self-limiting beliefs that audiologists, surgeons,
teachers and parents inject in Cyborgs and potential Cyborgs.

For example, I was told before my first surgery that I shouldn't expect
to be able to hear on the phone after activation. Rather than expect
it, I should instead hope for it but not be discouraged if it never
happens.

I ignored the advice as I wanted to talk on the phone.

Six months after my surgery, I racked up a little over $700 in over
minute cell phone charges. While it wasn't fun paying the bill, it was
a testament that I reached my goal. Trust me, I know how cell phone
minutes work now.

It's one thing to warn a candidate not to expect to hear on the phone
on activation day.

It's an entirely different thing to imply to a candidate that his only
tool for success is hope.

Fate or Destiny?

There is this prevalent attitude among many Cyborgs and cochlear
implant professionals that individuals with cochlear implants have very
limited control over how well they will hear with their implants.

It's almost as if they believe there's some mysterious force beyond
their control dictating their success or failure with the technology.
Many Cyborgs live passively with their cochlear implant while accepting
mediocre results. They hold the belief that their hearing peaked and
stagnated a year after activation and there's not much they can do to
improve their hearing.

Nothing could be further from the truth.
Men are not prisoners of fate, but only prisoners of their own minds.
Franklin D. Roosevelt.
The reality is that hearing with a cochlear implant is a skill and a
mindset that can be learned, practiced, and perfected over time.
It has muscles that need to be flexed and the more intense and
consistent you are in flexing those muscles, the better you're going to
hear.

Screw "Cautious Optimism"
Don't be afraid to set big goals and stumble once in a while. It is in
your mistakes and blunders that real progress happens.

Be an animal. Demand massive success and work toward making it happen.

Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.
While everyone else is playing it safe and telling you to expect less
with your implant, I'm telling you to expect more.

Aim for the moon.

You might not reach the moon in a year, 4 years or maybe even 10 years
but you will get there. And you will get there that much faster by
following the principles outlined in Cyborg Guide.

Shoot for easily talking on the phone.

Shoot for hearing and enjoying music.

Shoot for conversations in loud restaurants.

Shoot for perfect hearing.

"Refreshing and Insightful"

"Thanks for writing the book!
I've found Cyborg Guide to be refreshing and insightful."

Why I created Cyborg Guide

When I first started out in 2004, looking into whether or not I should
get a cochlear implant, I remember the feelings of frustration I had
over the limited amount of useful information regarding this
technology.

Yes, there are lots of websites and blogs that explain what a cochlear
implant is as well as detailed engineering ramblings of how it works.

The information I was really looking for were tips, principles,
techniques, and guidance from someone who was already where I wanted to
be. I was desperate for "meat" that would really clearly guide me in
successfully utilizing this technology to my own benefit.

Along with frustration, I also remember how scared and nervous I was at
the time. My main sources for information was my clinic as well as the
manufacturers themselves.

A lot has changed since 2004. While there are a lot more blogs and
information online today, I still find a vast majority of them to be
lacking in how to really take off with your cochlear implant.
Information online on this topic is scattered, disorganized, confusing,
and conflicting.

I created Cyborg Guide to share information I would've killed for in my
candidate days. I created the guide to share all of the amazing
insights and lessons I have learned along that way. Lessons that have
literally changed my hearing and my life in ways I'll be forever
grateful for.

You don't believe it's possible to succeed with a cochlear

You don't believe that you can exponentially improve your
hearing over time.

You think you're "too deaf" or "too handicapped" to succeed.

You think you'll never be able to talk on the phone with just
about anyone.

You think music will always sound like crap.

You believe you'll never be able to conquer background noise.
